Droylsden hit summit with fifth win
Droylsden are the new pacesetters in the North West Counties First Division North after a 2-1 victory over Colne at The Butcher’s Arms.
An own goal set Dave Pace’s side on the right path after 14 minutes, and Nellson Van’s fifth of the season just before the break gave Colne a lot of work to do in the second 45.
The relegated side did fight back – and pulled one back through Miles Storey on the hour mark. It wasn’t to be though for the Lancashire side, who drop to 11th after their second league defeat.

Thornton hit five past Maghull
Thornton Cleveleys bagged one of the results of the day after racking up the goals against previously-unbeaten Maghull in a 5-2 win.
Darren Branningan put Maghull ahead after 16 minutes, but Archie Lang pulled the home side level on 25 minutes. Thornton went in ahead after Luke Noble added the first of FOUR goals with three minutes until the break.
Star man Noble added a second half hat-trick – having previously only scored once this season – to seal victory. Sam Smith briefly made it 3-2, but Maghull’s first defeat of the table sees them drop to second place.
Nowhere near good enough from us today.

Home win for Ashton Town
Ashton Town leapfrogged Squires Gate in the league table after beating the Blackpool side 3-1.
A goal in each half from Alex Santos and one from Chris Lomax on 61 minutes meant Scott Harries’ injury time goal for the visitors was just a consolation.
Both sides have seven points on the board, but Ashton have played a game less.
Back-to-back wins for AFC Blackpool
Improving AFC Blackpool picked up a second successive 2-0 while beating Maine Road.
A first half goal from James Hughes and Jacob Gregory’s penalty ensured the points stayed with the home side, despite the second half red card for Jack Banks.
Having lost all three of their opening games, The Mechanics have quickly added six points within a week. Maine Road are in a bit of a slump, having lost all of their last three games without scoring a goal.
Holker unbreached once more
Holker Old Boys goalkeeper Matty Bailey kept a third consecutive clean sheet as his side beat Ashton Athletic 2-0.
A pair of Tom Dawson goals was enough for the Cumbrian side to seal victory, with the striker on target on 38 and 63 minutes.
Holker climb to fourth, but Ashton slip to the bottom of the pile on goal difference.
Nelson spoil Hunt’s big day
Nelson left it late, but took all three points in a battle of the new managers at Daisy Hill.
Max Cane’s goal on 81 minutes was enough to separate the sides as Arron Ripley’s team wrapped up successive league wins for the first time this season.
Daisy Hill – now led by ex-Premier League defender Nicky Hunt – will have to try again to pick up their first win of the campaign.
MSB Woolton rally for a point
MSB Woolton are the only other side without a win to date – but one point will feel like three after their ten men came from behind to rescue a point at Garstang.
Andrew Murphy’s brace for the home side looked to have Garstang in full control with 20 minutes to play – with the visiting Chris Moran already receiving his marching orders by this stage.
Despite this, the Liverpool side were able to rally and snatch a point – with Joe Harvey and Daniel Ventre both on target within a five minute period. The point lifts Mike Harvey’s side off the bottom of the table.
Late point for Fulwood Amateurs
Fulwood Amateurs needed a 96th minute equaliser to claim a point in an all-Lancashire clash at Darwen.
Josh Abbott’s 41st minute goal looked to have sealed all three points for The Anchors, but Spencer Lucas was able to spoil their party deep into added time.
The newly-promoted side sit sixth in the table, having picked up points in five of their opening six matches. Darwen sit on the halfway mark with two wins, two draws and two defeats.
It would prove to be Leighton Mills’ final game in charge of Darwen after his resignation over the weekend.

Siddle penalty earns point for Bacup
Bacup Borough have a healthy haul of four points after two matches after a 1-1 draw with early contenders Steeton.
Macauley Smith’s first half goal gave the Yorkshire side the lead, but Kyle Siddle was able to level the game on the hour from the penalty spot.
Bacup already have more points on the board than the bottom three – who have played at least three games more.
