Workington bag three points late on

Workington picked up their first win of the Northern Premier League Premier Division season with a smash-and-grab 2-1 win over Bamber Bridge.

All three goals came after the hour – with Luke Ellis putting the visitors ahead on 65 minutes, only for his goal to be pegged back by Ewan Bange with ten minutes left to play.

The game looked to be heading to a score draw – but Steven Swinglehurst hadn’t read that script, and snatched all three points for his side three minues into added time.

Victory moves the Cumbrian side from the foot of the table – while Bamber Bridge fall to a first defeat in four games.

Table-toppers FC United see off visitors

FC United of Manchester continue to lead the way after a 2-0 victory over ten-man Cleethorpes Town.

The game was goalless when the visiting Brad Abbott was sent off on 54 minutes – and the ruthless home side quickly pounced on their man advantage.

Quickfire goals from Jay Fitzmartin and Ajay Weston had Mark Beesley’s side 2-0 by the hour mark – and that’s how it finished.

A fifth win of the campaign leaves them two points clear at the top. 1,679 were in place to see a home win.

Late drama for Lancaster City

Jimmy Marshall’s Lancaster City side are up to third after a 3-2 win at Rushall Olympic – in a game where both sides scored in added time.

Kian Ryley put the home side ahead after 31 minutes – a lead they took into the half time break – but two goals in as many minutes from Steven Yawson saw Lancaster ahead ten minutes into the second 45.

Matty Clarke added a third in added time before Ryley completed a late brace, but it was nothing more than a consolation. The Dolly Blues are now unbeaten in five matches.

First win in three for Prescot

Prescot Cables returned to winning ways with a 2-1 home victory over struggling Morpeth Town.

Finlay Cross-Adair and Tom Elliott goals either side of the break left Cables in a strong position, before Luke James gave the visitors hope midway through the second half.

Ste Daley’s side are now unbeaten in four and up to tenth in the table.

Both sides see red in Hyde United draw

Hyde United scored three times in the last 20 minutes to claim a point in a 3-3 result at Hebburn Town – with both sides ending the game with ten men following a pair of early red cards.

Hebburn were quickly into the lead via Oliver Martin on six minutes – only for the same player to be dismissed on the half hour mark. Hyde’s Shakeel Jones-Griffith followed him off two minutes later – but there was still much more action to come.

Gary Martin doubled the home side’s lead just after the hour, before Jack Redshaw pulled one back for The Tigers on 73 minutes. Hyde were level by 78 minutes with Nyal Bell scoring the equaliser.

Hebburn once again pulled ahead with ten to play through Matthew Elsdon – but Bell was not to be denied his impact and won a point with his second on 82 minutes.

This would prove to be Nick Spooner’s final game in charge of the Ewen Fields club – with the manager tendering his resignation over the weekend.

Warrington Rylands pegged back

Second placed Warrington Rylands took a point in a 2-2 draw with Hednesford Town – but it could have been all three considering they were 2-0 up within 25 minutes.

Jake Burton opened the scoring after three minutes, with Guy Hall adding the second 20 minutes later. Jake Jervis brought Hednesford back into it just before the break.

Substitute Nathan Blissett was the key man for the visitors as his 84th minute goal saved a point. A third straight draw extends Warrington’s unbeaten record to seven games.

Defeat for Warrington Town

Warrington Town lost 2-0 at Gainsborough Trinity as they lost a fourth straight away game since their return to Step 3.

Goals from captain Jonathan Margetts and Sisa Tuntulwana either side of the half time whistle wrapped up the win for the home side.

Paul Carden’s Warrington side have four points on the board, with their sole win coming against Ilkeston Town in mid-August.
