Carlisle City come from behind to win

Carlisle City‘s strong recent form in the Northern League Division One continued with a 2-1 home victory over North Shields this weekend.

Dan Kirkup’s side have now scored points in five of their last six matches, but the game’s opening goal came from the visitors – with Lee Mason netting on 24 minutes.

North Shields held the lead until Jordan Irving levelled the scores on the hour mark with his eighth of the season, and Tom Mahone won it for the hosts with 15 minutes left on the clock.

A sixth home win of the season leaves City in 16th place, but now within touching distance of the two sides above them. 157 were in attendance at Gillford Park to see The Sky Blues take all three points.

Tuesday’s match between City and Penrith has been postponed due to floodlight issues in the aftermath of Storm Eowyn.

Mintcakes take point

Kendal Town came from behind to secure a point in a 1-1 draw against promotion rivals Blyth Town.

Goalless at half time, the deadlock was broken by Blyth’s Adam Johnson shortly after the restart – before Steven Yawson equalised on 67 minutes to ensure the game ended all-square.

This point extends Jimmy Marshall’s team’s unbeaten run to six matches – albeit breaking their five match winning run at the same time. The Cumbrian side currently sit three points outside the playoffs in seventh – but promisingly have games in hand on every side above them.

The Mintcakes ended the game with ten men after Matt Flynn’s red card in added time.
