Newby hat-trick fires Altrincham to home win
Alex Newby’s first half hat-trick helped Altrincham move to within a point of the National League playoffs in their 4-0 home win over Maidenhead United.
The 29-year-old got the ball rolling early on, with his eighth minute goal setting the tone for a brutal first half for the relegation-threatened visitors.
Newby added a second midway through the half, with Regan Linney making it 3-0 from the penalty spot on 33 minutes.

The game was over as a contest when Newby sealed his hat-trick just before the break, and Phil Parkinson’s side managed the game out to record back-to-back clean sheets for the first time this season.
This win also sees Alty wrap up the league double over the Berkshire side, having won the reverse fixture 1-0 in August.
The Trafford side still have work to do to make the top seven – with current residents Rochdale and Oldham Athletic having games in hand on their Greater Manchester counterparts.
Rochdale game off due to pitch issues
Rochdale’s scheduled midweek clash with York City has been postponed due to ongoing pitch issues at the Crown Oil Arena which has seen their last three home games called off.
Drainage issues in certain areas of the pitch have left the field permanently waterlogged – with recent snowy and icy weather not helping.

The postponement was mutually agreed with York to allow work on the pitch to be completed, who will now visit on Tuesday, 25 March.
The AFC Fylde vs Oldham Athletic fixture originally scheduled for Wednesday night has been moved to Saturday, February 1.
