Altrincham downed by Shots

Altrincham fell to a first defeat in six National League matches while losing 2-1 at Aldershot Town.

James Henry’s brace put Shots 2-0 up in the first half hour, a lead the home side maintained until the final stages – and claimed a first win in five for the Hampshire side.

Despite being down to ten men in the last 10 minutes thanks to Tom Crawford’s red card for a second booking, Altrincham pulled one back in the final minute through Wrexham loanee Jake Bickerstaff – his first for the club – but were unable to find a late equaliser.

The Cheshire side miss the chance to jump into the playoffs, with teams around them also losing or not playing as the poor weather affected the fixture list.

Rochdale-Oldham Athletic derby off

There was much disappointment as the big local derby between Rochdale and Oldham Athletic was postponed on Saturday morning.

The lunchtime kick-off was called off after two pitch inspections by the match officials due to the playing surface at the Crown Oil Arena being waterlogged.

Speaking to the club website, Rochdale Co-Chairman Simon Gauge said: “I would like to thank both the ground staff and wider staff at the club for all of their efforts this week in the most challenging of weather conditions to try and get the most anticipated derby for quite some time on.

“Unfortunately, since 5am this morning, the combination of heavy snow and rain has left certain parts of the pitch in an unplayable condition.”

Oldham drop to fifth as a result of Gateshead’s big 5-0 win at struggling Maidenhead United – one place and four points ahead of their near-rivals Rochdale.

Waterlogged pitch at AFC Fylde

AFC Fylde‘s game with bottom side Ebbsfleet United was also postponed due to a waterlogged pitch – just an hour before kick off.

The Coasters’ inactivity sees them remain in the bottom four along with bottom side Ebbsfleet.

Kevin Phillips’ side have won three and lost three of their last six league matches.

National League results

Elsewhere in the National League, York City have regained top spot after seeing off Yeovil Town 4-0 – as Forest Green Rovers drop to second with a 2-2 draw at Southend United.

Barnet ensured the top three are now covered by a single point after a 2-0 home win over Woking, while Solihull Moors failed to jump into the playoff spots after a 4-3 loss at home to Hartlepool United.

Tamworth leapfrogged Dagenham & Redbridge in the table with a 2-1 win, while Boston United won for the first time since September, beating fellow strugglers Braintree Town 3-1. Eastleigh and Wealdstone shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw.

FC Halifax Town’s game with Sutton United also fell victim to the weather.
