Atherton LR push past Abbey Hey
Atherton LR‘s strong season continues after a 4-1 victory in the FA Vase second round over the higher-ranked Abbey Hey – who played most of the match with ten men.
The North West Counties First Division North leaders took the lead from the penalty spot through Ryan Talbot on 14 minutes – following Daryll Grant’s red card two minutes earlier.
Talbot’s first goal for Atherton LR comes on his first start for the club, and Joe Bacon’s third FA Vase goal of the season took his side in with the advantage at the break.

Further goals from Akim Samms and George Chadwick rubber-stamped their place in the next round, with the home side picking up a consolation own goal in added time.
Having already dispatched Cheadle Town, Colne and now Abbey Hey, LR could prove a dangerous opponent for other Step 5 clubs in the next round.

Impressive Winsford march on
Winsford United continued their strong overall form as they thumped fellow Step 6 side Darwen 6-1 at The Barton Stadium.
Elliott Coleman’s early opener for the home side was cancelled out by Jamie Ramwell on 32 minutes, but Winsford still went in ahead thanks to Oli Pope’s effort shortly after.
Winsford motored on in the second half, with Coleman taking a second goal and Matty Birchall helping himself to a hat-trick in little more than a half hour. Birchall is now up to eight for the season while his side are now unbeaten in 15 across all competitions.

South see off Chaddy
South Liverpool came out on top in an all NWC Premier-clash with Chadderton – with a goal in each half confirming them as 2-0 winners.
Goals from Dominic Cain (28) and Chris Happi-Fankam (78) sent Martin Ryman’s side through at the expense of their divisional rivals, whose downturn in form now extends to four losses in a row across all competitions.
South remain on track to equal their best performance in the competition – a run to the fourth round last season.
