Maghull bag all 3 points

Maghull picked up three points in the only game to go ahead across all three divisions of the North West Counties Football League while beating Darwen at The Anchor.

Darwen’s reward for getting the First Division North game on was a 3-1 defeat, with Maghull bouncing back from a heavy defeat at Nelson last time out to pick up their first points of 2025.

The visitors took the lead early on from the penalty spot thanks to Harrison Worden – with half of his six goals this season now coming from 12 yards.

Nathan Moffitt doubled the Liverpool side’s advantage before the break, but Jayden Major halved the deficit shortly after the restart with his second in as many games.

League standings and attendance

It wasn’t to be for Darwen however, whose seven game winning streak comes to a halt – with Darren Brannigan wrapping up the win for Joe Burns’ side ten minutes from time.

The result leaves Darwen in eighth, nine points shy of the playoffs – while Maghull are up a place to 12th after a third victory on the road.

276 were in attendance – Darwen’s highest attendance of the season to date – and probably boosted by the lack of action elsewhere.

Weather decimates North West Counties fixture list

That the game went ahead was an achievement in itself – with every other game across the competition called off. FA Vase fixtures for West Didsbury & Chorlton and Atherton Laburnum Rovers also fell victim to frozen pitches – and will now be played next weekend.
