Cheshire and High Peak

Cheshire retains a strong Olympic and Paralympic pedigree, with Macclesfield’s Ben Ainslie, Disley’s Dame Sarah Storey and Crewe’s Matt Langridge among the gold medal winners from the county in recent history. Middlewich para-swimmer Poppy Maskill added her name to this list at the 2024 Paris Games.

National League North members Chester and Warrington Town lead the region’s charge in non-league football, while Widnes Vikings are the county’s highest-ranked rugby league side outside the Super League. Ellesmere Port-based Cheshire Phoenix provides the county with a top-tier basketball side.

Buxton FC represent the High Peak in the National League North, with Glossop North End and New Mills playing their football in the North West Counties. Buxton Raceway hosts local and national series in various formulae.
