Bury edge past Newcastle Town
Bury began life in the Northern Premier League Division One West with a late 1-0 win over Newcastle Town at Gigg Lane – and fellow promoted side Lower Breck are also off to a flyer.
The Shakers eventually shook off their visitors, with Aiden Walker’s goal three minutes from time in front of 3,631 at Gigg Lane enough to bag Dave McNabb and co the three points.
Bury played host to a contingent of Morecambe fans in a show of solidarity with their stricken counterparts.

First ever Step 4 game sees Lower Breck win
Step 5 playoff winners Lower Breck also started on a positive note with a 1-0 win at Mossley.
Ex-Bury man Alex Cherera settled it in the Liverpool side’s favour ten minutes into the second half at Seel Park. It’s his second in as many weekends for his new club having also found the net in an FA Cup loss at Hallam last Sunday.
It’s been a subdued start to season for Mossley meanwhile, after losing both their league opener and FA Cup tie by the same 1-0 scoreline.
Bakkor sets Linnets on right track
Runcorn Linnets came out on top at Atherton Collieries, with a goal in each half wrapping up a 2-0 win for the visitors.
Scott Bakkor took his side’s first goal of the season at the half hour mark, with Adam Moseley sealing the win in the final five minutes.
Linnets won both matches between the clubs last season by the same 2-1 scoreline. Progress in the FA Cup last week in addition to today’s win represents a good start for Brad Cooke’s team.

Shenton off to a strong start at Avro
Avro picked up an impressive 2-0 win at Stafford Rangers – with Sam Davidson opening the scoring at the 18 minute mark.
Kyle Hawley’s penalty on 83 minutes ensured the points returned on the coach home with the Oldham side.
Under new management, Grant Shenton’s side make a strong start in their bid to bridge the ten-point gap that denied the club a play-off spot last season.

Callum’s brace gives travelling Nantwich the win
A goal in each half from Callum Saunders made it a profitable away day for Nantwich Town, who ran out 2-1 winners at Bootle.
Saunders netted in the seventh minute to give his the side the half time lead, and doubled his tally just after the hour. Bootle pulled one back via substitute Courtney Duffus with 20 minutes to play, but it was to be Nantwich’s day.
Honours were even between the two sides last season with both picking up a home victory over the other.
Last-gasp Clitheroe in away-day win
Clitheroe left it late, but are off to a winning start after leaving Shifnal Town with a 1-0 win in their back pockets.
Jake Carroll’s 87th minute free kick was the difference maker between for the Lancashire side at the newly-promoted Shropshire outfit.
Player-boss Sean McConville – who made a late appearance from the bench here – will be looking to build on last season’s top ten finish.

Bears tamed at Sporting Khalsa
Play-off finalists Congleton Town fell to an opening day 3-1 defeat at Sporting Khalsa – one of two sides laterally transferred from the Midland division.
The home side were 2-0 up before the 20 minute mark thanks to early goals from Kieran Whittaker and Taylor Townsend before player-manager Richard Duffy pulled one back for The Bears.
A third Khalsa goal from Gurjit Singh with eight minutes left to play proved to be the final goal action for the day as Congleton return to Cheshire empty-handed.

Defeats for Trafford and Wythenshawe Town
Trafford were beaten 2-1 at Shawe View by the other transferred side – Darlaston Town – despite taking the lead in the opening minute through Matt Davies. Reprieved Wythenshawe Town are also off to a losing start with a 2-0 defeat at Kidsgrove Athletic.
Adam Hughes’ late intervention rescued a point for Vauxhall Motors, who were trailing Stalybridge Celtic thanks to Ruben Jerome’s 54th minute penalty.
Finally, Witton Albion and last season’s playoff semi-finalists Chasetown played out a goalless draw in front of 409 at Wincham Park.
