West best Bury

West Didsbury & Chorlton started the New Year with a bang – thumping Bury 4-0 in the North West Counties Premier Division – with this result seeing The Shakers forfeit top spot in the league.

Paul Marshall’s West side racked up a fourth straight league win – and fifth in all competitions – thanks to two goals in each half as they strengthened their grip on a top five position.

Jordan Lazenbury got the ball rolling on 11 minutes with his 22nd of the season, and ex-Bury man Andy Briggs doubled the advantage ten minutes later. Lewis Billingsley put the game out of sight with his effort on 66 minutes, and Victor Abadaki wrapped up an impressive performance in the closing stages.

It’s just a third defeat for Bury this season – all of which have come on the road. This game marks the first time Dave McNabb’s side have failed to score in the league this campaign.

Point enough to take Rammy top

Ramsbottom United are back in pole position at the top of the table – with the point gained in a 0-0 draw at Abbey Hey lifting them to first place.

An eighth draw of the season helps Ramsbottom remain unbeaten in the league since September. Steve Wilkes’ men now hold both a point and a game in hand over their nearest challengers.

Abbey Hey have picked up nine points in their last five league matches while remaining unbeaten against many of their Greater Manchester rivals.

Heys pick up crucial win

Bottom club Prestwich Heys picked up a fourth win of the campaign with a strong 3-0 home victory over fellow strugglers Squires Gate.

Connor Martin opened the scoring within a minute, with Tom Woodward and Bryson Appleton adding goals in the second half. The trio all score their first goals in Heys colours this season.

Two victories in four matches for Ryan Hutchinson’s side have doubled Heys’ win column for the whole season. Heys remain five points adrift of second bottom side Colne, whose fixture with promotion chasers Lower Breck was called off due to a frozen pitch.

Ten back-to-back defeats make worrying reading for the Blackpool side, who sit two points above the bottom two.

In-form Storks win again

The division’s form side Padiham kept their winning streak alive – picking up all three points for the eighth straight game with a 3-1 win at AFC Liverpool.

Tyler James’ early brace put the visitors in firm control within the opening quarter hour, before Louie Lancaster pulled one back for AFC just before the hour.

Josh Briggs put any doubts where the three points were heading to bed with his 12th of the season on 77 minutes.

Padiham’s charge towards the playoffs continues as they leap up to sixth from a congested midtable. AFC are in tenth, but only six points away from the top five themselves.

Hillmen conquer Bowl

Glossop North End‘s reward for a wintry crossing to FC Isle of Man came in the form of three points in a 2-0 win.

Lewis Reilly was the star man for Richard Brodie’s side, netting both goals in the late kick off as North End picked up a first win in three games.

A fourth defeat in five sees The Ravens drop to ninth place.

North West Counties Premier Division results

Elsewhere, James Hammill’s hat-trick sealed a strong result for Litherland REMYCA in a 4-1 win over FC St Helens. Jordan Monthe had opened the scoring for REMY while Joe Barker pulled a consolation back for the visitors.

South Liverpool made it back-to-back wins by dismissing ten-man Barnoldswick Town 3-1 at Jericho Lane. Two from Charlie Glennon and Fidan Hajdari’s first of the season secured the win, while the visitors’ Andy Hill was sent off five minutes before the break.

Spencer Bibby scored the game’s only goal as Charnock Richard saw off Cheadle Town to pick up a fourth league win on the bounce.

Stockport Town battled back from 3-1 down to take a point against Longridge Town, with Harley Monaghan levelling the game in the final minute for The Lions.

Pilkington completed a similarly late comeback, with Freddy Garbutt having the final say one minute from time in a 2-2 draw with Burscough.
