Lower Breck deny late Bury fightback

Lower Breck‘s strong November form continued in the North West Counties Premier Division with a 4-3 home win over previously unbeaten Bury on Saturday.

Tom Croughan put the home side ahead on 15 minutes, but the in-form DJ Pedro levelled for Bury with his seventh since joining the club on loan from Buxton.

Lower Breck went in ahead however thanks to two goals in five minutes from Elliot Hughes – and Connor Millington looked to have sealed a rout with 15 minutes left to play.

Bury hadn’t quite rolled over and given up by this stage though – and a late fightback ensued with Patrick Jarrett scoring within two minutes of coming on, before Alex Cherera netted a third with two minutes left.

Ultimately, it would prove to be too little, too late for Dave McNabb’s side, who leave a game empty-handed for the first time this season. Bury’s Bobby Carroll was sent off in added time.

Lower Breck – now unbeaten in four – draw level with The Shakers on 49 points in fourth place. Despite finally succumbing to defeat, Bury remain in a strong position with at least three games in hand on the other sides in the top five.

Away win for Rammy

League leaders Ramsbottom United are now six points clear after beating West Didsbury & Chorlton 3-1 in their own back yard.

Harvey Whyte’s penalty sent Steve Wilkes’ side en route to victory, and Tom Hoyle doubled his side’s advantage just before the break. The same player made the result safe with his 13th of the season as his side stretched their league unbeaten run to 13 matches.

Connor Hughes pulled one back for West, but it’s now three defeats in a row for Paul Marshall’s side, who are now eight points shy of the playoffs.

Chadderton into top two

On Friday night, Chadderton made it back-to-back wins with a 3-0 win over bottom side Prestwich Heys and rebounded up to second in the table.

The game – played at Avro’s Vestacare Stadium due to ongoing work at Chadderton’s home ground – saw a first goal within ten minutes as Matty Barlow opened the scoring with his twelfth of the season across all competitions.

Chaddy had to wait until deep in the second half to double their lead, with sub Tyler Berry netting with a quarter hour left on the clock. Matty Crothers wrapped it up on 85 minutes for his side. Heys remain bottom of the pile and are now nine points adrift of safety.

Late win for Stockport Town

Stockport Town left it very late to turn it around, but claimed all three points with a 2-1 win over AFC Liverpool.

Edan Bavelock’s long-range effort on the half hour looked to have given all three points to the visitors, but substitute George Omokua had other ideas – netting in the 89th and 91st minute to give The Lions a fifth home win of the campaign.

Paul Turnbull’s side are up to seventh thanks to Omokua’s first goals since the opening day. AFC remain in the top half.

In-form Cheadle win again

Cheadle Town came from behind to beat Longridge Town 3-1 as Jake Davies’ side won a third straight game for the first time this season.

Liam Atkinson put Ridge ahead after 17 minutes, but the sides went in level thanks to Adam Davies’ added time equaliser.

Davies gave his side the lead shortly after the restart and George Lewis wrapped up the three points with his second in three outings late on. It’s now no win in 12 matches for Longridge.

Burscough end winless run

Kian Bell’s second half goal was enough for Burscough to beat Irlam and pick up a first win in eight matches.

Irlam fail to score for the first time since August and slip to tenth.

Finally, FC Isle of Man fought back from two goals down to take a point in a 3-3 draw at Pilkington. Second half goals from Charlie Higgins and Stephen Whitley gave The Ravens a share of the spoils.

The recent wet and cold weather put pay to a large number of games up and down the country, including these Premier Division fixtures:

  • Colne vs Squires Gate (waterlogged pitch)
  • Glossop North End vs FC St Helens (frozen pitch)
  • Litherland REMYCA vs Abbey Hey (waterlogged pitch)
  • Padiham vs Barnoldswick Town (waterlogged pitch)
