Cumbria & Isle of Man

The most remote part of the North West, but Cumbira and the Isle of Man are not barren wastelands without sporting representation. Cumbria is a rugby league stronghold, with Barrow Raiders and Whitehaven both competing in the sport’s second tier, while Workington Town ply their trade in League One.

Football is also prevalent here, with Workington Reds, Kendal Town, Penrith, Carlisle City and Holker Old Boys among the teams playing in the National League System. They are joined by FC Isle of Man – the first Manx entry into the English football pyramid.

Famed for its’ TT motorbike event, The Isle of Man is also where the Island Games began back in 1985 – a biennial multi-sport tournament for islands with populations less than 125,000. Douglas hosted the inaugaral games, and for a second time in 2001.
