Ramsbottom bounce back to win game in hand

Ramsbottom United delivered an instant response to defeat at the weekend to beat Charnock Richard 3-2 – and regain top spot in the North West Counties Premier Division.

A 3-0 loss at Lower Breck will have stung Steve Wilkes’ side, who duly dispatched the Chorley side thanks to Luke Barlow’s opener and a second half brace from Harvey Whyte.

Barlow’s first goal in Rams colours equalised the game after Shay Stansfield similarly opened his account for Charnock after just six minutes. Whyte’s brace sealed the win with 15 minutes to spare, but Nathan Nickeas’ final minute goal added tension to the last few moments.

Winning this game in hand sees Ramsbottom retake the lead from Bury, with one point separating the two near neighbours with both sides now having played 32 games.

There are still plenty of twists and turns in this title race between several clubs – more on that later.

A first win of the year for the league leaders brings Charnock’s five game unbeaten run in the division to a close, and Ryan Donnellan’s side sit midtable at this stage.

Perfect Padiham make it ten in a row

Padiham underlined their own promotion credentials by beating Chadderton 2-0 and extending their winning run to ten matches.

It was all done and dusted within the first quarter hour – with Josh Briggs opening the scoring with his 15th of the season, and Freddie Machell rounding out the scoring after just 11 minutes.

The sixth-placed Storks remain outside the playoffs on goal difference, but have at least two games in hand on the clubs currently in the top five. Chadderton remain third, but their declining form has seen them lose four of their last five.

West best Squires Gate

A fifth win on the bounce sees West Didsbury & Chorlton continue to hold off Padiham’s charge after brushing aside Squires Gate 4-1.

Jordan Lazenbury added goals 23 and 24 for the season in the first half, before Scott Harries pulled one back for the visitors on 41 minutes.

The game was put to bed by another brace – this time from Victor Abadaki, who is now only one shy of joining team-mate Lazenbury in the 20 goal club. Squires Gate’s abject form continues with a 13th straight defeat.

Glossop double up in home win

Glossop North End‘s 2-1 win over Litherland REMYCA saw The Hillmen do the league double over their opponents, following a 3-1 win back in August’s reverse fixture.

It was REMY who struck first however, with Elliot Toner quick off the mark to break the deadlock after four minutes, but Lee Rick’s penalty levelled the game shortly after.

The game remained level at the break, with David Badrock winning it for the home side just before the hour.

Cheadle unbeaten in 3

Cheadle Town scored a goal in each half to claim all three points with a 2-1 away win at Burscough.

Jake Davies’ side picked up a six win on their travels thanks to George Lewis’ opener, with Darren McKnight winning it on 63 minutes.

Harry Cannon-Norey had restored parity for the home side with his first goal since July, but his side now have no win in four matches.

Finally, Barnton were beaten 3-2 by Abbey Hulton United in the First Division South’s only midweek fixture. Edward Frempong and Finley Rourke’s penalty were not enough for the Cheshire side to avoid a fourth straight loss.
