AFC Liverpool climb into playoffs

AFC Liverpool leapfrogged West Didsbury & Chorlton into the North West Counties Premier Division playoffs with a 4-3 win in South Manchester.

Bobby Murphy put AFC Liverpool ahead after six minutes, but Lee Grimshaw’s leveller on the half hour sent the teams in level at the break. Elliot Taylor re-established the visitors’ lead, and the game looked settled after Caleb Jones scored his tenth of the season ten minutes from time.

However, the hosts battled back with Jordan Lazenbury scoring three minutes from time, before Taylor sealed it in injury time. Jack Banister grabbed one back for West, but it was too late to affect the score.

It was AFC Liverpool who emerged victorious – their third league win in a row – while West have one win in four.

High five: Cheadle Town rack up the goals

Cheadle Town picked up the weekend’s biggest result, thrashing Squires Gate 5-0 at Park Road. Jake Davies’ side were in charge by the break – with George Lewis opening the scoring before Darren McKnight’s brace – including an added time penalty.

Kaleb Parkinson and Harrison Bickerton completed the rout for Cheadle as they recorded their biggest win of the season. It’s back down to earth with a bump for the Blackpool side, who picked up a first win in five last time out.

Lower Breck back on the right path

On Friday night, Lower Breck were victorious in a game that saw six goals scored by three players. The Liverpool side were 4-2 winners over Burscough, as Gary Moore’s side bounced back from a midweek loss.

Ste Rigby opened and closed the scoring for the visitors, but his efforts proved to be in vain thanks to doubles from Jesse Dowling and Tom Croughan – with the former now on 11 goals for the season.

Burscough have now lost five of their last six – and Lower Breck complete the double over them having won the reverse fixture back in August.

Pedro scores first for Bury

Bury were the other winners among the chasing pack, with Dave McNabb’s side picking up a 2-0 win over Pilkington.

Rustam Stepans’ 15th of the campaign and Djavan Pedro’s first in Bury colours gave the home side a third straight win as they remain unbeaten in league outings this season.

Pilkington have won one in five and remain third bottom ahead of next week’s important game with Prestwich Heys. FC St Helens are next for Bury in midweek – and a much-discussed trip to AFC Liverpool next Saturday.

Barker settles it for FC St Helens

Joe Barker’s second half goal was enough for FC St Helens to take all three points at home to high-flying Chadderton, who fall to back-to-back losses for the first time this season.

By contrast, it’s a first win in five for Mike Smith’s side, while the prolific Barker is now up to 15 goals for the season. Chadderton fail to score for the first time since a 0-0 draw with Lower Breck in August.

Ravens keep winning run going

FC Isle of Man made it four wins from four as they saw off Abbey Hey 3-1 at The Bowl in the late kick-off.

Saul Henderson had put the visitors ahead early doors with his ninth of the season, but that’s as good as it got for the visitors – with Sean Doyle equalising on 21 minutes, and Dean Pinnington put The Ravens ahead for the first time.

Doyle sealed victory with his second of the night on the hour, and Trey Turner’s red card on 78 minutes capped a fruitless trip across the Irish Sea for Abbey Hey.

Late show sees South Liverpool win

Home wins are like buses for South Liverpool – they waited ages for one, then get two in a row. Martin Ryman’s side overcame Longridge Town 3-1 at Jericho Lane – with all the goals coming in the last 25 minutes.

Neil Weaver scored the first and final goals – with Owen Hough also on target for the home side. Liam Atkinson bagged the ‘Ridge goal on 75 minutes.

It’s a first loss in four for the visitors, while South Liverpool are now 11 points clear of the bottom two.

Best of the rest

Padiham ended Irlam‘s strong run with a 3-1 away victory. Early goals from Jakob Hebda and Tyler James gave The Storks the advantage, with Declan Daniels’ penalty bringing the home side back into it before the break.

Jack Price scored the decisive goal shortly after the restart, and victory here sees Padiham extend their unbeaten run to five in all competitions – and overtake their opponents in the league table.

Stockport Town made it three in three after beating Charnock Richard 2-1 at Mossie Park. Keane Barugh won it for The Lions on 53 minutes, who took the lead via Kai Johnston before Luke Power levelled the game.

A goal in each half saw Barnoldswick Town see off Prestwich Heys; with Barlick emerging as 2-0 winners thanks to Lewis Farmer and Oli Roberts.

League leaders Ramsbottom United had to settle for a point in a 0-0 draw at Glossop North End, while bottom club Colne also split the spoils in a 1-1 draw with Litherland REMYCA.

Nathan Cliffe’s opener was cancelled out by Eric Durnell within a minute of the restart.
