Deans double helps Widnes win
Widnes remain a strong second in the Northern Premier League Division One West after picking up a 4-2 victory at Bootle.
Michael Ellison’s side raced into a 3-0 lead early on – with two from Sharif Deans either side of one from James Steele – before the hosts started to fight back in time for the half time oranges.
Tom Hannigan pulled one back for Bootle in first half added time, and Ben Hodkinson’s penalty with 15 minutes left on the clock could have led to nervy times for Widnes followers. Sean Miller calmed any jitters a minute from time.

A first win in three for Widnes sees them clear in second spot, while Bootle have now registered one win in eight.
Ten-man Atherton Colls prevail
Atherton Collieries defied the odds and left Hednesford Town with a 2-1 win -despite playing the majority of the second half with ten men after Bobby Bjork’s red card.
Hednesford were ahead after 40 minutes thanks to Jack Bearne’s opener, but Tom Bentham levelled the game from the penalty spot in added time.

Bjork’s dismissal for a second yellow on 56 minutes could have swung the momentum in the host’s favour, but Michael Clegg’s side went on to win thanks to Alfie Belcher’s effort a minute from time.
A second away win of the campaign lifts Colls to third bottom after results elsewhere went their way. The Pitmen have one win in seven – a 3-2 triumph over Widnes earlier in October.
Vauxhall drive on with clean sheet win
A 1-0 win might not grab the headlines, but it’s enough to keep Vauxhall Motors at the top after Danny Holmes’ side saw off Newcastle Town.
The evergreen Kevin Ellison – now 45 – netted his eighth of the campaign nine minutes before the break – as his club moved into double figures for victories this season.
It’s a fifth league clean sheet for The Motormen, who sit two points clear of Widnes at this stage of the season.
Trafford pick up needed three points
Trafford ended a run of four games without a win by picking up by beating Wythenshawe Town 3-1 in their own back yard.
Matty Lusakueno opened the scoring for the visitors after just four minutes, but Jacob Blyth equalised for Wythenshawe midway through the half. Damola Sotona re-established the lead for Karl Marginson’s men on 34 minutes, and made sure of it by completing his brace after the break.
Despite their dip in form before today’s result, Trafford remain well-placed and sit just outside the play-offs with games in hand on all of the teams above them. Town are in 16th, having won four, lost four and drew four across their 12 matches.
Witton Albion into the top half
A 2-0 home win over Stafford Rangers sees Witton Albion climb into the top half of an incredibly tight league table.
A third win on the bounce came courtesy of a first half James O’Neill own goal, and one later from substitute James Hooper.
It’s been a strong start for Ben Harrison since he was appointed as full time head coach at the start of October – picking up 10 points from an available 15 in this timeframe.

Narrow wins for Mossley and Linnets
Now unbeaten in five, Mossley picked up an impressive 1-0 win over high-flying Nantwich Town at Seel Park with Mason Fawns scoring the game’s only goal on five minutes.
Runcorn Linnets returned to winning ways and won by the same scoreline at City of Liverpool thanks to Will Saxon’s early effort. The Purps are without a win in four and have dropped to second bottom following Atherton Colls’ win.
Celtic grab a late point
Stalybridge Celtic rescued a point a minute from time in a 2-2 draw at Wythenshawe. The Celts had taken the lead through Milan Lalkovic on 34 minutes, with the Slovakian netting his first goal for the club.
The game changed with two Ammies goals in quick succession from MJ Monaghan and Mike Phenix, but Joe Duckworth had the final say with his equalising goal on 89 minutes.
Duckworth’s intervention sees new manager Jon Macken pick up a point in his first game in charge, while Shane Goldrick’s Wythenshawe side are unbeaten in six.
