Prescot Cables bounce back
After a minor blip last week, improving Prescot Cables have moved into the top ten of the Northern Premier League Premier Division with a 3-1 win over Ilkeston Town.
The visiting Colin Daniel’s dismissal after just 20 minutes led to the first goal from the penalty spot. Daniel’s handball – met by a straight red card from referee Abid Hussain – saw Prescot Cables take the lead thanks to James Foley’s spot kick.
Further goals came from Ben Elliott and Lewis Gilboy after the break, before the visitors scored a consolation with a penalty of their own. Tom Cursons converted the penalty to give the travelling contingent something to cheer.

Ste Daley’s side have now won four of their last five league matches – the only reverse being last weekend’s 2-0 loss to Morpeth Town. A threadbare fixture list sees Ilkeston retain their top five place, with this only one of three matches played thanks to the FA Trophy first round taking place.
Lancaster City fight back for another point
Hyde United missed their opportunity to jump into the playoffs after throwing away a two goal lead at Lancaster City – who fought back to claim a point in a 2-2 draw at The Giant Axe.
Nick Spooner’s side had been in charge thanks to Jack Redshaw’s first half penalty and Lewis Thompson doubled Hyde’s advantage just before the hour – but Aaron Bennett pulled one back within ten minutes, and Charlie Bailey’s volley on 77 minutes brought Lancaster right back into it.
It’s a third straight score draw for The Dolly Blues, who are now unbeaten in four league matches. Hyde sit outside the playoffs on goal difference and will be looking for a first win in three in next weekend’s Tameside derby with Ashton United.
