Chadderton maintain momentum

Chadderton‘s dramatic 4-3 midweek win at Burscough has moved the Oldham side within a win of reaching top spot in the North West Counties Premier Division.

Both sides were in a rush to get going, with five goals arriving in the first 15 minutes – with Chadderton going 3-2 up early on thanks to Matthew Crothers’ opener and a Lewis-Simon Byrne brace. Matty Hamilton and Callum Laird were on target for the hosts.

No more goals arrived until midway through the second half – with Hamilton adding his eighth of the season to level the scores. However, it was Chadderton’s Matty Barlow who had the final say with the winner on 75 minutes.

It’s a sixth consecutive win for Chadderton across all competitions, while Burscough are now without a win in four.

Should long-time leaders Ramsbottom lose at Litherland REMYCA this weekend, and Chadderton are victorious over FC Isle of Man, Chaddy will take over at the top of the table.

Unbeaten Bury win again

Bury are still unbeaten in the league after picking up three points against Charnock Richard in a 2-0 away win.

Rustam Stepans’ penalty opened the scoring on 35 minutes, and Bobby Carroll wrapped it up in first half injury time with his first of the season.

Lewis Haydock’s red card shortly before the break added another challenge for the home side, who now have one win in their last six.

Dave McNabb’s side sit in fourth place, albeit with a bucketful of games in hand on the leading pair, thanks to a prolonged run in the FA Cup. They are currently nine points behind Chadderton and eleven behind Ramsbottom.

Irlam rack up the goals

Irlam grabbed the biggest win of the midweek fixtures by thumping Litherland REMYCA 5-0 at Silver Street. John Main’s side were in control by the break with Joe Rothwell, Declan Daniels and Takura Sambizi all on target in the opening 40 minutes.

Daniels added his second shortly after the restart, and Main took the final goal in added time. Late red cards for Paul Foy and Owen Beamon compounded a miserable trip for the visitors.

Back-to-back league wins have carried Irlam into the top ten, while the visitors failed to score in consecutive league games for the first time this season.

South Liverpool and AFC Liverpool win at home

South Liverpool picked up a first home win of the season while dispatching bottom club Colne at Jericho Lane.

Conor Ready’s first half penalty and Charlie Glennon’s second in as many matches wrapped up the points for the home side.

Colne are currently propping up the division with just one win to their names to date.

AFC Liverpool left it very late to snatch all three points at home to Abbey Hey, with Elliot Taylor’s decider coming five minutes into added time in a 2-1 win.

The visitors had been leading since just before half time – with Jordan Barnett’s converted penalty separating the teams until Caleb Jones’ free kick levelled the game on 72 minutes.

Phil Stafford’s side weren’t done there and Taylor’s goal ended a run of three defeats across league and cup for AFC.

Narrow win for Barnoldswick Town

Barnoldswick Town gained a measure of revenge on West Didsbury & Chorlton, winning 1-0 after defeat in the reverse fixture.

Oliver Roberts netted the only goal of the game on 42 minutes, and victory moves Barlick up to 15th – although they are another side with a lot of games in hand.

It’s a first away defeat for Paul Marshall’s side, while Barlick wrap up a fourth home win.

Score draw takes see Lower Breck in top 3

Lower Breck are third after grabbing a point late on in a 3-3 draw with Longridge Town. Connor Millington was the hero for the Liverpool side, netting the leveller four minutes into added time.

Ridge’s Liam Atkinson netted a hat-trick, and his side were 3-1 up in the closing stages, with Lewis Buckley netting Breck’s first on 62 minutes. Sam Burns pulled another one back to ensure a nervy finish before Millington’s timely intervention.

Padiham and FC St Helens also shared six goals equally, with Tom Smith securing a point for The Stripes in the last ten minutes. St Helens had twice been in the lead through Connor Spiers and Joe Barker, but Padiham pegged them back and eventually overhauled them with goals from Josh Briggs, Ben Hoskin and Willem Tomlinson’s screamer.

Both sides remain in the top half. Will Chadderton be top of the table by the end of play on Saturday?
