Radcliffe keep clean sheet in away win

Radcliffe moved six points clear of the National League North drop zone with a 1-0 win at Warrington Town – leaving their hosts six points adrift of safety.

Danny Greenfield’s strike just before the hour settled the tie in Radcliffe’s favour – and secured his side’s first win in three matches.

An eleventh victory of the campaign for Bernard Morley and Anthony Johnson’s side leaves their North West compatriots with just one win in 15 attempts. Next up for Radcliffe is a trip to Curzon Ashton on Tuesday.

Upwardly mobile Marine win again

No such problem for Marine, whose strong form continues with a 1-0 win at promotion-chasing Curzon Ashton.

Neil Young’s side extended their unbeaten run to seven matches- with a fifth 1-0 win in their last six – with three points secured by Jack Hazlehurst’s penalty four minutes from time. The home side’s Jimmy Spencer was dismissed amidst the penalty decision.

Another victory and results elsewhere sees the Crosby side sitting eleven points clear of the bottom four – and up a place after overtaking Alfreton Town, who drew 1-1 with Oxford City. A first loss in four for Curzon sees them relying on goal difference to maintain their top five position.

Southport double up under new management

Southport began the post-Jim Bentley era with a 2-0 win at second-bottom Rushall Olympic, with The Sandgrounders now under the caretaker stewardship of David Morgan.

A first win in five came courtesy of a Luke Burgess brace, with the ex-Ashton United man netting at the 40 and 80 minute marks.

The Merseyside club duly pick up the league double with a carbon copy of their 2-0 home win in October. Goals from Danny Lloyd and Marcus Carver secured victory at Haig Avenue.

Narrow win sees Chester moving on up

At the other end of the table, Chester moved back into the top two with a 1-0 win over Leamington.

Connell Rawlinson’s early header proved to be the decisive factor, with the skipper taking the game’s only goal on nine minutes.

Back-to-back wins for Calum McIntyre’s side leave them two points shy of table-toppers Scunthorpe United, with a wider run of one defeat in eight underlining their promotion credentials.

Buxton jump into top six

Chester’s cause was inadvertently aided by Buxton, whose good form continued as they vaulted into the top six with a 1-0 win at promotion rivals Brackley Town.

Dan Ogwuru’s volley midway through the first half secured both his maiden goal for the club and all three points. It’s three on the bounce now for The Bucks, who are beginning to reap the rewards of their transition to full time football this season.

Late heartbreak for Chorley

One of the sides John McGrath’s men have overtaken are Chorley, who fell to a 2-1 defeat to Needham Market in added time.

Kole Hall had put Chorley ahead after 25 minutes, and his side maintained their lead until Kieran Morphew’s equaliser with 16 minutes left to play.

Luke Ingram’s penalty sealed victory for the hosts, after Mark Ellis’ red card led to the spot kick. Three defeats in four leave Chorley just inside the playoffs in seventh place.
